HOPE BEGAN WITH A HEART TO SERVE
Colors of Hope Foundation, Inc. was created from a passion for serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and strengthening the families and communities that support them. Our story is rooted in firsthand experience, compassion and belief that every individual deserves opportunities to live with dignity, build independence, experience belonging, and reach their fullest potential.
Through education, advocacy, community partnerships, and access to meaningful resources, we are working to turn hope into opportunity—and opportunity into lasting change.
OUR STORY
From compassion to purpose
My journey began in 2008, when I had the opportunity to witness my mother caring for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. At the time, I knew very little about the IDD community, but watching her serve changed my perspective. She cooked, cleaned, provided personal care, offered encouragement, and supported individuals who depended on others for many aspects of daily living. What stayed with me most was the grace, patience, and dignity she brought to everything she did.
That experience planted a seed. As the years passed, I became more involved in the field, gaining firsthand experience and helping others develop services for individuals with disabilities. In 2013, I helped my aunt open a group home, and my journey eventually grew into consulting and assisting more than ten agencies with establishing group homes throughout North Alabama.
Through those experiences, I saw both the strength of the IDD community and the gaps that families and individuals can face when searching for resources, opportunities, education, and support. I knew there was more work to be done.
Colors of Hope Foundation, Inc. was created from that vision—to build a bridge between needs and opportunities and to create Hope Beyond Barriers.
